Few weeks ago I met a new friend. She had just arrived from Iran recently and we had a brief conversation, small talk trying to cover some important things and take each other’s pulse on where we are on certain topics in life. I forgot how exactly the conversation went, but then she said something about life here actually giving you an opportunity, or something hopeful to that effect. I’ve forgotten how to see some of these things in life and have grown a bit emotionally frowny – on the outside I guess I maintain a positive outlook on things, but have somehow lost that permanent sense of awe that life surely deserves. She also mentioned how different it is here for a woman.

Then a few days later, I saw this – two girls on an empty parking lot with their skateboards, killing time and just being friends and girls.

And I understood what I saw

To be continued someday in another post. It’s not always straightforward what is freedom and what are the ways that it can be “provided”. I’m still having my doubts as to how free we are in this free world, but at that moment, these two friends were free, and that matters even if it’s a fleeting bubble
